Sasin appoints Dr Ian
Fenwick as new Director
Bangkok - 5 June 2019: Professor
Ian Fenwick has been named Director
of Sasin School of Management (Chulalongkorn University). Professor Fenwick
succeeds Mr. Paron Israsena Na Ayudhya, whose two-year term ended on 31 May
2019.
Professor
Fenwick is the fourth Director in Sasin¡¯s history, following Founder and
Director Toemsakdi Krishnamra (1982-2014), Professor Dipak C. Jain (2014-2017),
and Mr. Paron Israsena Na Ayudhya (2017-2019).
Professor
Fenwick first came to Thailand as a visiting professor from the Schulich School
of Business, York University (Toronto, Canada) in 1988 to work with various
universities in the Kingdom developing courses in entrepreneurship.
In
1992, he began teaching marketing strategy as a visiting professor at Sasin and
became a full-time professor in 2001, teaching the core (required) marketing
management courses and marketing strategy courses. He has also held a number of
administrative roles at Sasin, and since 2017, he has served as Sasin¡¯s Interim
Deputy Director, External.
In
2008, Professor Fenwick co-authored Digimarketing:
The Essential Guide to New Media & Digital Marketing, with
Kent Wertime (now co-CEO of Ogilvy Asia). Published by Wiley & Sons and
translated into editions in Japan, PRC, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, and
Vietnam, it was one of the pioneering books about the sea change that
marketing was undergoing and made Professor Fenwick a much sought-after
visiting professor at business schools around the world.
¡°I've
always thought of Sasin as a sleeping
dragon: tremendous global potential, but mostly dormant for the
time-being,¡± Professor Fenwick said. ¡°It's worth remembering that the founders
of Sasin had tremendous vision and creativity. I'm told that Sasin was the
first international program of the Kellogg School of Management and seems to
have been the first program in the world built initially on 100% visiting
faculty. Kellogg found the model so appealing that they cloned the Sasin EMBA
program in Canada, Germany, Hong Kong and Israel.¡±
¡°I
think it is my task to reawaken the dragon that
is Sasin, re-focus it around Sustainability
through Entrepreneurial Mindset, and recapture the far-sighted
creativity of our founders,¡± he said. ¡°It is truly an honor to be able to stand
on the shoulders of the giants who created Sasin and extend their vision into the
21st century.¡±
Professor Fenwick is also Professor Emeritus
& Senior Scholar at Schulich
School of Business, York University (Toronto, Canada). He received
a BA (Honors First Class) in economics & sociology from Durham University
(UK), and earned his Ph.D. at the University of London.
